Tasting Note

92+   2013  Ridge  Geyserville (Alexander Valley)   12/11/15  ($35)

73% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah, 1% Mataro      14.7% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Wild berries combine with game, leather and cedary mocha. Also a little sulfur that should blow off with age. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with a rich, silky, tangy mouthfeel. Excellent fruit and acidity with smooth tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as expressive. A bit muted. (3.0) Finish: Long and persistent with gamy meat flavors lingering. (3.5)
Overall: Another excellent Geyserville. It doesn't quite show the concentration to be great at this point, but does show a lot of distinctive game, leather and mocha complementing the lively wild berry fruit. What's most impressive here is not super strength in one suit, but excellent strength in all suits, which should make it better than the sum of its parts as it ages. (16)
