Tasting Note

91+  2012  Ridge  Geyserville  (Alexander Valley)   11/8/14 ($34)

71% Zinfandel, 19% Carignane, 7% Petite Sirah, 2% Mataro, 1% Alicante Bouschet  14.4% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dusty briar and funky earth complement racy, tart cherry and boysenberry fruit. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight to light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Silky/tangy mouthfeel. Smooth healthy tannins supporting. (3.0) Flavor: More delicious than bouquet. (3.5) Finish: Long with fruit and musky spice lingering. Has a touch of heat. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent Geyserville that shows more dusty, earthy complexity than other recent vintages (I like this a lot). Fruit is more than sufficient, but needs time to come to the fore. Young and somewhat muted, this needs 3-6 years to open and integrate. In spite of this, it is well balanced and the complexity is already quite interesting. (15.5)
