Tasting Note

94   2011  Ridge   Pagani Ranch  Zinfandel (Sonoma Valley)   11/10/13 ($35)

78% Zinfandel, 18% Alicante Bouschet, 3% Petite Sirah, 1% Mataro  14.7%alc
Color: Very deep purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Tart, intense Zinberry (blueberry, blackberry and boysenberry). Acidity keeps it precise with briar, ash and subtle tar. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with outstanding fruit and acidity. Light on its feet with lots of tang in the mouth. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet step-for-step. (3.5) Finish: Long, but not as concentrated as flavor at this point. (3.0)
Overall: Gorgeous Pagani. It's not huge (like the 2009 for instance), but perfectly balanced with beautifully precise old vines fruit combined with elegance and complexity. Reminds me of the 2000. Outstanding already, just give it a good decanting, as the youthful acidity is slightly fierce at first. Should be at its best in 3-6 years. (17)
