Tasting Note

92     2011  Ridge  Geyserville  (Alexander Valley)   8/17/13 ($35)

78% Zin, 16% Carignane, 4% Petite Sirah, 1% Alicante Bouchet, 1% Mataro    14.0% alc
Color:
Medium purple black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Sweet black cherry and black raspberry with briar, game, black pepper, elegant milk chocolate and mocha nuances. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight to light heavyweight with excellent fruit and youthful acidity. Rich, silky mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more expressive and delicious. (3.5) Finish: Tasty and long, but youthful acidity is slightly austere at present. (3.0)
Overall: Much like the 2010 in its weight and style, but has a bit more youthful acidity and the fruit is a bit more expressive too, making 2011 slightly superior. If it gains a little weight with age, it could be another 2001. If not, then it will probably turn out more like the 2004. We'll just have to wait and see. (16.0)
