Tasting Note

92+   2008  Ridge  Geyserville (Alexander Valley)   8/12/18 ($35)

72% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet   14.8% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Pretty black cherry, raspberry and boysenberry complemented by subtle mocha and minerality. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit concentration, acidity and smooth tannins. Silky mouthfeel with just a little astringency. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as pretty. (3.0) Finish: Very long with old vines muskiness and racy mineral acidity to the fore. (3.5)
Overall: Classic Geyserville with its elegance, complexity and pretty fruit. Does still have a little austerity to shed (acidity and tannins), but could certainly improve in the next 3-5 years. Very enjoyable and food friendly even now and gets better and better with extended air. Much improved from its youth, when it was quite austere with a little heat. (16.0)
