Tasting Note

92   2005  Ridge  Geyserville (Alexander Valley)   11/25/17  ($30)

84% Zinfandel, 12% Carignane, 4% Petite Sirah    14.6% alc
Color: Very deep garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Cocoa-infused, mature Zinberry (black cherry, black raspberry and blackberry) with dusty, briary, gamy terroir. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not as expressive. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor. (3.0)
Overall: A big vintage with plenty of life left and excellent complexity, but the cocoa is a little too prominent and the fruit is reserved. Still an enjoyable wine that goes well with food and has outstanding structure, just not exciting. May improve in the next few years? (16)
