Tasting Note

95   2003  Ridge  Pagani Ranch Zinfandel (Sonoma Valley)    6/17/18  ($32)

90% Zinfandel, 6% Alicante Bouschet, 4% Petite Sirah   15.3% alc
Color: Deep garnet with some browning, but no clearing. Impressive for 15. (3.5) Bouquet: Ripe fig and lively Zinberry. Fruit is ripe, but balanced by acidity. Musky old vines and pretty spices complement. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with outstanding fruit and acidity and smooth tannins. Silky, tangy mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with musky old vines giving character. (3.5) Finish: Long and tasty, but shows a touch of bitterness from alcohol. (3.0)
Overall: Totally peak Pagani with very ripe yet very tangy Zinberry (wild boysenberry and blueberry), even some ripe fig, combined with distinctive, musky old vines complexity. For as big and ripe as this is, it also has a silky mouthfeel and elegance. This is classic old vines Zin at its best! Drink now and in the next couple of years. (17)
