Tasting Note

96   2001  Ridge  Geyserville (Alexander Valley )   3/29/14 ($30)

74 % Zin, 18 % Carignane, 8 % PS     14.4 % alc
Color: Deep garnet with a little browning at rim, but no clearing to speak of. Impressive for its age. (3.5) Bouquet: Sweet mocha and exotic spice integrated with lively Zinberry fruit. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with outstanding fruit and acidity. Silky mouthfeel that coats. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but fruit is even more lively here. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with outstanding aromaticity and length. An interesting marzipan nuance is in the mix. (3.5)
Overall: A great Geyserville with impressive elegance and complexity complementing plenty of Zinberry fruit. Has an intense presence to it. The American oak adds an attractive mocha component typical of mature Ridge Zins. Totally peak now, but should remain this good for a few more years. (17.5)
