Tasting Note

96   1994   Ridge  York Creek Petite Sirah (Spring Mountain)   9/26/15  ($20)

93% Petite Sirah, 7% Zinfandel   12.7% alc
Color: Very deep black cherry garnet. Very slight browning at rim, but no clearing. (3.5) Bouquet: Dusty, Tuscan-like terroir with cigarbox and chopped nuts complementing sweet cassis and dense black cherry fruit. Also an interesting basil nuance. Fantastic! (4.0) Body: Heavyweight with outstanding fruit, acidity and tannins. Coats the mouth beautifully with elegance. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more dusty and restrained. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet, open and long. (3.5)
Overall: A great Petite Sirah!!! I usually don't think PS is worth the wait, but this one definitely was! Has sweet cassis fruit like a mature Medoc and black cherry, cigarbox and nut nuances like a mature Sangiovese (reminiscent of a mature Super Tuscan like Tignanello) It also shows elegance that I've honestly never tasted in a PS before. Greatest PS I've ever tasted! (17.5)
