Tasting Note

93+   2007 Ravenswood  Teldeschi Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)  2/6/10 ($35)

   14.5% alc
Color: Dense purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Black licorice, crispy bacon, eucalyptus and oak on top of jammy black raspberries and stewed cherries. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and tannin. Coats the mouth beautifully. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but with more forward rich fruit, briar and eucalyptus. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more restrained. Still long with intense briar and subtle bacon fat nuances lingering. (3.0)
Overall: I always enjoy Teldeschi, but this one is special. It's got terrific structure, combined with great balance and concentration. The rich bacon fat and herbal components are interesting and really grew on me the longer I tasted. This has a long life ahead of it, 10 years at least, but is so rich and well balanced that it's delicious now after an hour or two in a decanter. (16.5)
