Tasting Note

90+   2013  Querciabella   Chianti Classico (Tuscany)   4/29/18  ($28)

100% Sangiovese   13.5% alc
Color: Medium black cherry garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dusty Tuscan earth and forestal herbs complement anise and cherry licorice fruit. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and very good, lean fruit. Tangy, high acidity mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but fruit is more expressive with extended air. (3.5) Finish: Long, smooth, herbal finish. (3.0)
Overall: A lean Sangiovese with austere acidity and Tuscan terroir being prominent. I drank this over 24 hours. On day 1, it was somewhat closed, particularly in fruit (89pts), but opened on day 2, showing sweeter fruit and more distinctive complexity (91pts). Can be drunk now with a good decanting, but crys out for food. A great food wine in fact and a classic example of the DOCG with no fat. Should improve in the next few years. (15.5)
