Tasting Note

88+   2010  Puig-Parahy  Georges  (Cotes du Roussilon)   10/27/13 ($15)

40% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 30% Syrah   13.5% alc
Color: Medium deep black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Smoky, tart black raspberry and cherry fruit with some minerality and a touch of sulfur. Also nuances of roasted herbs and anise. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with very good fruit and acidity. Smooth, somewhat silky mouthfeel. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little thin in the mid-palate. (2.5) Finish: Tart fruit and smoke lingers in the bouquet-like finish. (3.0)
Overall: A lot of character for the price and easy to drink with black raspberry and cherry fruit, combined with supporting acidity/minerality. Also shows anise and herb nuances along with subtle earthiness reminiscent of a fine Negroamaro from Puglia, but its French character makes it more elegant. An excellent value that is versatile with food. Drink now and in the next few years. (14.0)
