Tasting Notes

90+(?)   1998  Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano  Asinone   4/24/10 ($40)

     13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Rich black cherry with smoked bacon, beef stock and walnuts. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity and big chalky tannins that stick to your cheeks. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little bitterness from tannin. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with dry tannins lingering. Also gives a little burn in the back of the throat, which clears with air. (3.0)
Overall: Plenty of rich black cherry fruit with nutty oak, red and black pepper, tobacco and herbs. Has impressive, ageworthy structure still and the tannins need time to resolve, 2-5 years. A little austere, but should improve with time. If drinking now decant for two hours. (15.5)
