Tasting Note

92      1997 Poliziano VNDM Asinone 10/29/05($23in Greve)

Color: Deep black cherry with no onion skin. Dense. (3.5) Bouquet: Cigarbox and walnuts surrounded by concentrated dried cherry. (3.0) Body: A heavyweight that is well-balanced with excellent acidity and smooth, but substantial tannins. It coats the mouth, but is not thick or overbearing. Alcohol showing a little, but should integrate with time. (3.5) Flavor: This is concentrated, sturdy, classy and ageworthy Sangiovese. Classic black cherry with a lot of cigarbox. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor. Long, but shows some tannic dryness. Still classy for its size. (3.0)
Overall: Big, classy Sangiovese that is aging slowly. It is showing signs of maturity, but still not peak. Give it another 2 years at least. May take 5+ years to be at its best. Drinks like a top notch Brunello for about half the price. This is that rare Sangiovese that inspires deep thought. (16.0)
