Tasting Note

90+  2004 Poliziano  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano   1/22/11 ($25)

  13.5%alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Pistachios, Torrone candy and cigarbox with ripe black cherry and some dust and game. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and very good tannin. Perfectly balanced. Tangy in the mouth. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more tannin and cedar showing here. (3.0)
Overall: Ripe black cherry with excellent acidity, pistachios, a lot of cigarbox, some Tuscan dust and very good, smooth tannins. The best vintage for this wine since the outstanding 2000. I find myself noticing the cedary oak in Poliziano's wines more than ever. I don't know if they're using more or I've just become more sensitive to it. Nonetheless, a fine Sangiovese that's a consistently good value. Drink now and in the next 3-4 years. (15.5)
