Tasting Note

91     2001 Poliziano Vino Nobile de Montepulciano 6/3/05 ($21)

Color: Very deep purple-garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Concentrated tart cherry and floor wax (pungent). Tuscan earth and cedar in the background. Smells intense and young. (3.0) Body: Excellent fruit-to-acid-to-tannin balance. A light heavyweight with structure for aging. (3.0) Flavor: Excellent ripe and tart cherry (classic Sangiovese) fruit complemented by substantial, but refined tannins. A little restrained at present. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but a little more expressive and long. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent, young Vino Nobile. This is very similar to the 2000, which is drinking well now, so give this one another year. It should continue to improve for at least two. A very consistent, high quality Sangiovese at a very reasonable price. (15.5)
