Tasting Note

95   2004   Poliziano  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone   5/28/18  ($45)

   13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with some browning, but no clearing. (3.5) Bouquet: Sweet stewed cherries, crushed mixed nuts, ashes, cedar and dusty Tuscan earth. All with intensity. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and tannins. Balanced fruit and intense acidity coat the mouth beautifully. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet step for step, but needed extended air to become totally open. (3.5) Finish: Big and long with all the flavors intense and persistent. Best part. (3.5)
Overall: You don't meet many great Vino Nobile, usually being outdone by their more famous neighbor (Brunello), but this is one. Drinks very much like a top notch Brunello Riserva. A well balanced heavyweight with sweet stewed cherry fruit intermixed with crushed nuts, ashes, cedar and dusty Tuscan earth. These flavors are very persistent from start to finish. It's peak, but should remain this good for another 2-4 years. Was outstanding when first opened, but got even better with a few hours of airs. (17.5)
