Tasting Note

92   1997  Poliziano  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone   3/30/14 ($40)

     14 % alc
Color: Very deep garnet with some browning but no clearing. Impressive for 16+. (3.5) Bouquet: Lively cherry and cedar propelled by outstanding acidity. Stony minerality and dusty terroir. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent tannins and acidity. Sufficient fruit. (3.0) Flavor: The fruit is more lively here. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with black pepper, cedar and black cherry lingering. (3.5)
Overall: A mature Sangiovese, yet has enough healthy tannins to go another 5 years. But does it have the fruit? Fruit is sufficient and most expressive in the flavor at this point. Has power, fruit and complexity similar to a Brunello Riserva. Best now after several hours in a decanter. (16.5)
