Tasting Note

92+   1997  Poliziano  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone   1/21/17  ($40)

   13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with browning, but no clearing. (3.5) Bouquet: Stewed cherries, cigarbox, dusty Tuscan earth and mixed nuts. Also a balsamic vinegar component. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity, smooth tannins and very good fruit. Tangy, slightly astringent mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. Fruit could be more prominent. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with balsamic vinegar nuances lingering. (3.0)
Overall: Totally mature Vino Nobile that drinks like a Brunello Riserva. Lots of nuts and cigarbox with balsamic vinegar and cherry fruit. Also a bit of gout de vieux. Very well balanced and is finally showing elegance. Like an interesting old Madeira, a wine to ponder over. (16)
