Tasting Note

92     1989 Chateau Pichon Lalande     12/26/08

12.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with some onion skin and some clearing, but far from old. (3.5) Bouquet: Very Pauillac with lots of gray clay and black ink on top of rich cassis. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with tannin and acidity supporting very good fruit, but could have more. Coats the mouth somewhat. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little less sweet fruit showing. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with a little more bitterness. Strong Pauillac terroir lingers. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent Pauillac with distinctive terroir. If it had more fruit and/or elegance it might be great. Shows a lot of energy for its age. (16)
