Tasting Note

91+(?)   2012  Petalos  Mencia - Bierzo (Descendientes de J. Palacios)  2/15/15  ($17)

   14% alc
Color: Deep purple/black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Subtle incense complements papaya, guava and black cherry fruit. Sweet, pure, delcious old vines fruit. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight to light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Rich, silky mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but even more expressive. (3.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet. (3.0)
Overall: Best Petalos since the 2007. More about pure, old vines Mencia fruit than oak, which was not necessarily the case in the last several vintages. Has a spicy incense component and the fruit needs a little time to gain more weight. When I consider the quality of this wine and then look at the price, I'm excited about it. Drink now or give it 4-6 years to develop. Amazing value! (16.0)
