Tasting Note

87+   2006 Peique  Tinto Mencía - Bierzo        3/7/09 ($14)

   14% alc
Color: Medium purple garnet. Darker than the last wine. (3.0) Bouquet: Eucalyptus and roses (medicinal and flowery) with tart cherry fruit and some mineral and oak. (2.5) Body: Again, silky mouthfeel, but has more richness than the last. Solid middleweight with some tannin in with the excellent acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but richer and more forward. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet. (2.5)
Overall: Has distinctive herbal, flower and mineral components with good fruit, but has rustic edges that grate on the palate a bit. This improved with air, so may get better in the next 1-3 years. Reminiscent of a Cabernet Franc from the Loire. Good value. (14)
