Tasting Note

91+   2009  Peay  Scallop Shelf  Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)   11/16/12 ($54)

13.8% alc
Color: Medium deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Interesting herbal nuances of watercress and baking spices with raspberry fruit. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent acidity and very good fruit and minerality. Silky mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Spicy with a little bitterness and fruit is slightly restrained at present, but still very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with an interesting quinine nuance. (3.0)
Overall: The interesting herbal nuances combined with tart raspberry fruit are what drive this. A pleasure now, but should open more and improve in the next 3-5 years. Hard to say whether this or the '09 Ama is the better wine. We'll have to wait and see. (15.5)
