Tasting Note

93    2009  Peay  Sonoma Coast Chardonnay    9/8/12 ($40)

    13.8% alc
Color: Deep gold (18kt). (3.5) Bouquet: Elegant lemon butterscotch, minerals and honeysuckle with a little toast. (3.5) Body: Excellent acidity, fruit and minerality. Tangy, rich mouthfeel. Solid middleweight plus. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with tart green apple. Sophisticated. (3.5) Finish: Long and elegant. Shows an interesting nuance of sweet rum cake. Minerality is slightly fierce here. (3.0)
Overall: Outstanding minerality and elegance. Drinks very much like a Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachet. Shows green apple fruit complemented by distinctive, elegant lemon butterscotch, honeysuckle and toast with mineral intensity ever present. Outstanding now, but could improve in the next 5-7 years. (16.5)
