Tasting Note

92+    2008  Peay  Pomarium Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)   8/21/12 ($52)

    14.2% alc
Color: Medium red and black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Spicy black cherry cola with some attractive burnt caramel. Aromatic with elegance. (3.0) Body: Rich, silky mouthfeel with outstanding mineral-infused acidity and excellent fruit. Solid middleweight. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but even better with tangy minerality and elegantly delicious fruit. (3.5) Finish: Smoke, caramel and minerals are prominent and attractive, but the fruit is a little restrained here at this point. Still long and elegant. (3.0)
Overall: An aromatic, elegant, spicy Pinot Noir with excellent fruit and outstanding minerality. The spicy/smoky flavors speak of CA, but the elegant fruit is more like Oregon and the minerality is more like Burgundy. A beautiful combination! This is so easy to drink and hard to resist even now, but should get even better with a few years bottle age (2-5 yrs). (16.0)
