Tasting Note

90+   2012  Peay  Sonoma Coast Chardonnay   7/22/16  ($40)

   13.4% bbialc
Color: Medium straw to light gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Elegant cedar complements precise pear fruit with a subtle menthol nuance. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with restrained fruit and acidity. Dry, tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with tart green apple in the mix. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with persistence. Shows a slight bitterness from minerality. (3.0)
Overall: An elegant, cool climate Chard with slightly under-ripe/tart pear and green apple fruit complemented by subtle cedar and menthol nuances. Shows very good minerality and acidity, but not quite as much as the best vintages of this wine. But still shows class and could certainly improve with 3-4 more years in bottle. Tasted better on days 2 and 3 than when first opened. (15)
