Tasting Note

92+(?)   2012  Peay  Estate Roussanne/Marsanne (Sonoma Coast)   7/10/15  ($46)

71% Roussanne, 29% Marsanne   12.6% alc
Color: Bright gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Steely, dried pear and litchi nut with white pepper and spice. Nuances of white meat, buttery cheese and subtle cedar. Somewhat restrained. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent acidity and fruit. Concentrated with elegance and balance. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Best part at this point with an interesting spice character. (3.5)
Overall: The quality here is outstanding, showing restrained power and impressive flavor concentration. But needs time for the fruit and complexity to open. Drinks more like 91 pts at this point, but had to give it the extra point for its sheer quality and ageworthy structure. A white wine for a red wine lover, it's big stuff, but has elegance for its size. I suspect it should improve with age, 5-10 years. (16.0)
