Tasting Note

92+   2009  Peay  Les Titans Syrah (Sonoma Coast)   6/10/18  ($44)

  13.5% alc
Color: Deep black ruby garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Incense and Indian spices complement concentrated black cherry and wild berry fruit with forestal nuances underneath. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and sneaky tannins underneath. Mouthfeel is slight astringent. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little bit restrained. (3.0) Finish: Long and complex, but astringency holds it back a bit at this point. (3.0)
Overall: A complex, cool climate Syrah that is showing more of its structure than its fruit, being somewhat astringent. The quality still comes through after breathing 24 hours, but needs another 3-5 years to open fully. I like its structure for aging and just hope that the fruit will blossom and it will show more elegance with time. (16.5)
