Tasting Note

92   2007  Peay  La Bruma  Syrah (Sonoma Coast)   1/23/15  ($44)

  13.7% alc
Color: Deep ruby, black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Blackberries and musky black cherry fruit complemented by dusty clay and black pepper. (3.5) Body: Light Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and chalky tannins. Somewhat silky mouthfeel that coats. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but tannins could be smoother, adding a slight bitterness. (3.0) Finish: Strong, long finish. Not yet as pretty as the bouquet, but more expressive and interesting than the flavor in the mouth. (3.5)
Overall: Not quite peak, but getting close. Still shows some chalky tannins needing 2-4 years to smooth. But the secondary nuances are starting to come on with musk, dusty clay, black pepper, lavender and violets complementing the spicy black cherry (Dr. Pepper) and blackberry fruit. (16.0)
