Tasting Notes

88    2007  Palmina  Barbera (St. Barbara County)    3/14/10 ($22)

      14.8% alc
Color: Deep black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Minerals and acidity with tart cherry, raspberry and tart plum. True to Piedmontese Barbera. (2.5) Body: Middleweight with excellent tart acidity/minerality and very good fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but richer. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet with tart raspberry/plum and minerality lingering. Could show more complexity and concentration here. (2.5)
Overall: A very successful CA Barbera that is surprisingly true to the Northern Italian form. It could be more complex, but delivers very good tart cherry and plum fruit with minerality. It's well worth the price, particularly if you're a Barbera fan looking for a solid CA version. (14.0)
