Tasting Note

91+   2010  Alvaro Palacios  Les Terraces Velles Vinyes (Priorat)    4/26/13 ($35)

45% Carignan, 40% Grenache, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah   14.5% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Smoked meat and game complement ripe black plum and dried blackberries with creosote and sesame seed candy. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity and fruit abd substantial smooth tannins. The youthful acidity is a bit fierce at this point and showing a little heat. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet but not quite as expressive. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with Indian spices and a tangy/lively mouthfeel lingering. (3.5)
Overall: Impressive Carignan/Grenache blend that is very young. Has outstanding potential (give it 3-6 years), but its youthful austerity holds it back at present. Has an interesting mix of power, complexity and even some elegance. (16)
