90+ 2011 Ogier La Rosine Syrah (Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes) 4/26/15 ($30)
12.5% alc
Color: Deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Tar, smoke, coffee beans, anise, tree bark and elegant mineral on top of rich blackberry fruit. (3.0) Body: Silky mouthfeel with excellent acidity and fruit. Healthy, smooth tannins underneath. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but racy acidity and minerality give it more life, filling the mouth with silky blackberries and sweet tar. (3.5) Finish: Minerals linger nicely, but the other flavors that are forward in the mouth are more reserved here. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent, elegant Northern Rhone with interesting nuances of tar, anise, smoke, coffee beans and tree bark. These flavors combine with blackberry fruit to make an expressive impression in the mouth. Minerality lingers nicely in the finish, but needs time to open here. Drink now with a decant or age 3-5 years. (15.5)
