Tasting Note

91    2010   Odonata  Mourvedre Shenandoah Valley (Amador County)   1/5/13 ($28)

  13.7% alc
Color: Medium deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Blueberry muffin and crushed boysenberry. Lively, jumps out of the glass. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit, spice and acidity. Silky mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with tree bark and briar in the background. (3.0) Finish: More briar with slight youthful fierceness. Excellent length. (3.0)
Overall: The blueberry muffin fruit on this really drew me in, being particularly prevalent in the aromatic bouquet. The excellent acidity makes it lively and racy, also an excellent food wine. Drink it now for its pure fruit or wait 5 years to see if more of the tree bark and briar complexity emerges. Has a Pinot-like style similar to their '09 Grenache. (15.5)
