Tasting Note

88   2010  Odonata  Besson Vineyard Grenache (Santa Clara County)   11/16/12 ($28)

13.6% alc
Color: Medium black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Nuts and dusty earth complement tart black cherry fruit. Attractive and interesting. Reminiscent of Tuscan Sangiovese. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with plenty of tart acidity and very good fruit. Tangy in the mouth, but does not coat. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: A little lean with slight bitterness. (2.5)
Overall: This reminds me of Tuscan Sangiovese with its tart black cherry fruit, complemented by dusty earth and propelled by acidity-based structure. Can be drunk now if you decant for an hour. Could improve in the next 2-4 years. A very different wine than their '09 Grenache, which was from Alta Mesa and was in more of a Pinot Noir-like style. (14)
