91    2009  Odonata  Zayante Vineyard Syrah (Santa Cruz Mtns)   8/26/12 ($28)

Color: Deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Stewed black cherries, black licorice and candied black raspberry with some mineral and spicy sweet, toasted oak. Also shows a subtle forestal mushroom nuance. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Rich, tangy mouthfeel with smooth tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but shows a slight bitterness. (3.0) Finish: Tangy, long and delicious. Racy fruit with some spicy tar lingering. (3.0)
Overall: A fine Syrah with concentrated stewed black cherry and black raspberry fruit with candied black licorice, tar, some mineral and a subtle forestal mushroom component. Has excellent acidity with smooth tannins underneath. Quite delicious now with a decant, but could improve in the next 2-5 years. (15.5)
