Tasting Note

92    2009  Odonata  Machado Creek  Petite Sirah (Santa Clara County)   7/15/12 ($28)

    14.5% alc
Color: Dense purple black. (3.5) Bouquet: Crushed blackberries and boysenberries with black licorice. Acidity keeps it lively. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Silky mouthfeel with elegance for its size. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with even more forward fruit. (3.0) Finish: Long and delicious with just a slight bitterness combined with black pepper, probably due submerged tannins. (3.0)
Overall: Concentrated crushed blackberries and boysenberries with some smooth black licorice make this absolutely delicious. Also has excellent acidity and smooth tannins underneath that should enable it to age and possibly improve. Has so much fruit it's hard to tell if there's more complexity in there. Time will tell (4-6 years), but no need to wait. (16.0)
