Tasting Note

89+    2009  Odonata  Malbec  Silvaspoon Vineyard (Alta Mesa)   6/3/12 ($25)

    13.6% alc
Color: Deep purple blueberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Cocoa/cedar oak and tart, spicy dusty blackberry jam. Slightly restrained at present. (2.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and fruit purity. Oak integrates nicely after 1-2 hours of decanting. (3.0) Flavor: Tart blueberry to blackberry with distinction. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with the fruit showing an attractive candied quality. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent purity and distinction to the blueberry/blackberry fruit with excellent acidity and cocoa oak. Drinks something like an elegantly styled Russian River Valley Zin. Elegant for Malbec. The pure fruit should get even better as the oak integrates more. Decant for 2 hours for now drinking or wait 2-5 years. (14.5)
