91+   2012  Occhipinti  SP68 (IGT - Terre Siciliane)   3/28/14 ($26)

Frappato and Nero d'Avola       12.5 % alc
Color: Medium red cherry to black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Sweet Asian spices, anise, black truffle and clay complement black cherry and veal broth. Rich, elegant and interesting. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Silky/tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with lively minerality/acidity propelling it all. (3.0) Finish: Not as persistent or concentrated as the flavor, but still long and elegant. (3.0)
Overall: Elegant and complex with racy fruit on a middleweight frame. Interesting nuances of sweet Asian spice, anise, black truffle and clay complement the core flavors of black cherry and veal broth. Burgundy-like minerality gives it energy. Shows excellent flavor intensity for its weight. Should pair well with poultry and other white meats. Drink now and in the next 5 years. (15.5)
