Tasting Note

90+  2007 Numanthia  Termes   (Toro)   1/17/11 ($23)

  14.5%alc   100% Tempranillo
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Concentrated blackberries, some mineral, leather and eucalyptus. Has a touch of heat, but still delicious. (3.0) Body: A lot of tannin and youthful, fierce acidity mixed with excellent fruit. Has a viscous, rich mouthfeel that coats. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more harsh. The fruit (blackberries and tar) combined with structure is still impressive for the price. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but shows more minerals and cedary oak, resulting in a little bitterness. Still long with some complexity. (3.0)
Overall: This is big, young and fierce Tempranillo. It needs time (3-5 years), but already shows delicious blackberry fruit concentration with leather, eucalyptus, tar and cedar nuances. Delicious now with rich food if you decant for an hour or two. (15.0)
