Tasting Notes

90+   2006  Mount Eden  Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir  3/27/10 ($40)

      13.8% alc
Color: Medium black cherry with a little orange. (3.0) Bouquet: Mineral and subtle earth complement lively black cherry with some butterscotch. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity-driven structure and, not big but, focused fruit and mineral flavors with some background tannins. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with sea-salt minerality and cola in the mix. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but a little muted at present, except for the minerality, which lingers beautifully. (3.0)
Overall: This is an excellent SCM Pinot Noir that is elegant with structure. This should get richer/sweeter with time, but is very enjoyable even now (suggest 1-2 hours decanting). Not as concentrated as the '04, but very similar in its flavor profile and style. At its best in 2-3 years. (15.0)
