Tasting Note

95     1985 Chateau Mouton      12/28/03($90)

Color: Deep garnet with onion skin. Still has a blackness to it that is impressing for 18.(4.0) Bouquet: Perfumy ink, vanilla extract and toffee.(3.5) Body: Excellent balance of fruit to tannin to acid. On the heavy side of middleweight to light heavyweight.(3.0) Flavor: A slight herbal austerity of rosemary combined with cedar, dry cassis and ink.(3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet with a little less perfume, still long and interesting.(3.5)
Overall: A great Bordeaux from a serious, but less than heavyweight, vintage where many of the lesser growths drank at their best by 10 years old. Many delivered delicious drinking pleasure. This one, being my last, has wonderful balance and expresses the terroir of Pauillac with elegant perfume. Thought provoking and a joy to drink. Peak now, but will probably hold for a few more years.(17.0)
