Tasting Note

92+   2013  Michel Schlumberger   Gold Collection Chardonnay (Dry Creek Valley)    5/26/18  ($40)

  14.8% alc
Color: Bright gold with a hint of green. (3.0) Bouquet: Ripe pear fruit with butterscotch oak, bright acidity and some minerality. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Rich, tangy mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but fruit is more expressive, propelled by racy acidity. (3.5) Finish: Long and tasty fruit, but shows a little bitterness from alcohol. Still very attractive. (3.0)
Overall: A young Dry Creek Valley Chardonnay with ageworthy acidity-based structure and attractive, ripe pear fruit. Shows butterscotch oak that just meets the fruit and some minerality combined with complexity in the fruit to make it interesting. If this was from Napa it would be twice the price. Well done! Drink now and in the next 5 years. (16.0)
