Tasting Notes

90+   2007  Thierry et Pascale Matrot  Bourgogne Blanc   4/23/10 ($16)

     12.5% alc
Color: Medium deep bright gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Intense minerals and a touch of gravel with green apple and lime fruit and a subtle nutty nuance. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent minerals and acidity and very good fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Gravel more prevalent with less forward fruit than the bouquet, but still shows excellent minerality. (3.0) Finish: Intense, briny minerality with green apple fruit underneath. Impressively long. (3.5)
Overall: What intense minerality this has! Combined with enough Burgundian elegance to make it more interesting as it warms. Serve at cellar temperature (55°F). No oak to be found here, but has more personality than the vast majority of big, oaky CA Chardonnays. It's not as complex as a higher appellation Burgundy (at $50+), but far from "simple". Amazing for appellation Bourgogne. Great Buy!! (15.5)
