Tasting Note

91+   2012  Matassa  Rouge (Cotes Catalanes)   3/24/16  ($30)

mostly Carignan with   12% alc
Color: Deep raspberry to black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Wet leaves and subtle clay, spiced cola and sweet/tart cherry fruit. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with a tangy mouthfeel. Excellent fruit and acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Juicy, minerally and very giving, showing all the flavors in the bouquet, but even more enjoyable. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with excellent length, but not as much intensity. (3.0)
Overall: Juicy fruit (black cherry and raspberry) combine with interesting nuances of wet leaves, subtle clay, lively minerals and spiced cola (Dr Pepper) to create a compelling, drink-me-now treat. Reminiscent of a ready-to-drink Burgundy from the Cote de Beaune. Drink now and in the next few years. (16)
