Tasting Notes

91   2008  Mas Conscience  Le Cas  Vin de Pays de l'Herault (G & L Vidal)  11/23/13 ($18)

 100% Carignan  50 yr old vines   Biodynamic/Organic  13.5% alc
Color: Deep black cherry garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Concentrated black plum and black cherry with lively minerality. Sweet cooking herbs combine with the rich fruit. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit and acidity. Tangy, silky mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but even better with delicious, racy fruit and subtle, rustic herbs. (3.5) Finish: Long, tangy old vines Carignan fruit and complexity lingering for 30+ seconds. (3.0)
Overall: A seriously good old vines Carignan with concentrated black plum and black cherry fruit. Interestingly sweet cooking herbs are propelled by outstanding minerality and acidity. This was more restrained in fruit and rustic in character when I first tasted this back in September 2011, but has developed into a real beauty. Should remain this good for a few more years. Great value. (15.5)
