Tasting Note

87    2000 Chateau Malescasse Haut-Medoc     5/4/07 ($18)

12.5% alc
Color:Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Rich black-raspberry with some pencil-shavings. Smooth, but restrained. (2.5) Body: Solid middleweight with good fruit, acidity and concentration. Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (2.5) Finish: Bigger and richer than the flavor, but acid burns the back of the throat a bit. (2.5)
Overall: This drinks better than the score indicates, but a little too much acid for its own good brought it down a point or two. Probably want to drink it now, but it could hold for a couple of years if the acid doesn’t get any worse. (13.5)

Note: Drank again 4/12/08. It showed more fruit and less acid. More or less ready. Gave it an 88, very good. Could be bigger and more classy, but admirable for an inexpensive Bourgeois Chateau.
