Tasting Note

92+  2010  Magnon  Rozeta (Corbieres)   1/25/15  ($27)

a field blend of mostly old vines Carignan, with small amounts of Grenache, Syrah, Grenache Gris, Macabou, and Terret     13.5% alc
Color: Medium black cherry with browning, making it look like black cherry tea. (3.0) Bouquet: Minerals and lively acidity propel elegant red and black plum fruit with nuances of freshly cut Spring flowers and subtle anise. (3.0) Body: Silky/tangy mouthfeel, similar to a top notch Cru Beaujolais, with excellent fruit and acidity. Light middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Added nuances of camphor and subtle meat. Also shows an elegant spiciness based on minerals and flowers that's hard to describe but compelling. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with anise in the mix. (3.5)
Overall: What an elegant and unique wine. It's minerality, subtle flowers and spice nuances are very Burgundian, but the plumy fruit and meat nuances are very old vines Carignan. Wonderful stuff! Could improve in the next 2 years, but excellent now with air. The plus is for its elegant persistence and uniqueness. (16.0)
