Tasting Note

88+   2005 Frederic Magnien Chambolle-Musigny VV   7/26/07 ($53)

Color: Medium deep black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Young grapy cassis and black raspberry with a healthy dose of buttery oak. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with nice balance and rich fruit, acidity and oak. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but backward and somewhat closed. It also shows a young astringent edge at this point. (2.0) Finish: Parallels flavor. Needs time to open and develop. (2.0)
Overall: Tasty, even now after an hour or two of air, at which point it did show some rich fruit and classic C.M. restraint and elegance. It is very young and backward though and needs 3-6 years to show what it’s got. Fine village wine in a ripe, modern style, but I’d like it better at $35-40. These ’05 prices are painful. (14.0)
