Tasting Note

88   2007  Frederic Mabileau  St Nicolas de Bourgueil-Les Rouillères  7/16/10 ($15)

  13% alc
Color: Medium deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Chalky cherry and cassis with subtle clay and mineral terroir. Fruit is still slightly grapy (young). A little Indian spices thrown in. (3.0) Body: Excellent acidity and minerality with good fruit and some tannin. Solid middleweight. Lively in the mouth. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but chalky bitterness slightly mars the fruit. (2.5) Finish: Tangy minerality lingers, but fruit could be more forward here. (2.5)
Overall: Very
good Bourgueil, just not up to the excellent '06. Has excellent acidity and minerality with some tannic structure. It's cherry/cassis fruit is sufficient, but could use more to compensate for the chalky bitterness. The terroir here is subtle and interesting, giving it character. Could improve in the next 1-3 years. (14.0)
