Tasting Note

92    1995 Chateau Lynch Bages    2/07/04 ($50)

Color: Deep garnet, can see through it a little. Does not look young, but not peak yet.(3.5) Bouquet: Rich, perfumy Pauillac ink and clay mingled with rich cassis.(4.0) Body: Excellent fruit-to-tannin balance in a light heavyweight package. Tannin and some new oak still sticking out a little, but integrated enough to be very enjoyable.(3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not as rich and open. Tannin can integrate here a bit more.(3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with some bitterness and austerity from tannin and new oak. Still long Pauillac terroir and cassis present.(2.5)
Overall: An excellent Lynch Bages, showing everything one expects from a fine Pauillac of this pedigree. Still a little young and not great like the ’89, but a joy to drink already. Should be at its best in 2-3 years. (16.0)
